Dear Alex, You are the greatest artist of our time. I hope that I as well may help this place with oils and wood. But I feel that you have said all that need be. It feels that I cannot paint something that has not already been done, but on the other hand a heart tells that I might bring something to the world that has never been here before. And that this body might have to take over when the great painters, such as yourself, go on. And that I may have to teach the next set of true painters to experience the fact of limitless boundries. I guess what I'm asking is for your blessing. Now after writing all that I feel like a dork. And it seems as if I should listen to myself more often. Because most of the time I'm quite down on myself. I feel like your painting about lack of self love. And sometimes I feel like the middle section of "Journey of the Wounded Healer", like every force is pulling in every direction. And I have no idea why I'm telling all this to you, but I feel a little bit better already. Thank You for including me on your journey. You have taught me more than you know. Again thank you. You know, I had a simillar trip... I met this chick that I thought was the manifestation of a cosmic experience I had. I guess I was just projecting my anima on this unsuspecting silver-gazelle. Your artwork and writing has lent guidance through dark times. You are an inspiration and gift to us all. I am quite interested in the Sacred Mirrors Chapel project. I am currently a student at the Evergreen State College here in Olympia studying in an ecological design program. In our program there is an on-going dialectic concerning the design dimensions of ethicality, sustainability, and beauty. The chapel appears to address these dimensions and in doing so, has resulted in a transcendent form. I am particularly curious as to possible materials and building techniques envisioned for the chapel. It would be great to keep informed about these details. Roughly a decade ago, I first saw the work of Alex Grey in an art magazine. I was absolutely floored. You see, I have my degree in medical illustration, but even while in school I began imagining another way of putting the skills I was learning to use. I had misgivings about the western system of medicine - objectifying the body and ignoring its ties to the mind, spirit and cosmos. In my young mind's eye, which had recently been introduced to psychedelics and yoga, I envisioned someday being able to create images which could portray our physical situation a bit more thoroughly and truthfully. There was a picture there, though I sensed, rather than saw, its refinements. I graduated and did a brief internship, but never persued my degree. I did not forget the overwhelming project I had devised for myself in school, however, and dabbled a little here and there as I slowly familiarized myself with spiritual and energetic philosophies. Then I saw "Praying" and one or two other reproductions of Alex's and I said "Well. There it is." What I was looking at was PRECISELY what I had seen, though dimly, back in school. To this day I lack the technical skill and knowledge and self motivation to undertake such a project successfully. I am damn glad it is being done by another. Thank goodness it wasn't left to me! While such things no longer surprise me, I find similarities of vision among people fascinating. It only seems to confirm some universal truths, doesn't it? I expect that many folks "recognize" your work. I'd love to know how often you get messages like this. Guess I'll peruse the other comments. By the way, what a website!

Dear Alex Grey, I am a freshman at Loyola College in Baltimore, MD and for a recent paper we had to find a piece of art and write not only a 3-page description of the work, but also a 1-page creative response. I am writing because the work that I chose was Nuclear Crucifixion with is being shown in the American Visionary Art Museum. I really have no background experience whatsoever in art at all, but I I have a strong spiritual connection and when I saw your work on the wall, something really empowered me. I've been looking all over the Internet for a downloadable image of the work not only to print and put up in my room, but also to show to my professor. At first sight, I really didn't know what to do. I think I just stood there with my jaw dropped and at the floor, but as I stared at it, I could really see the beauty in the miracle of life and the connection it makes with the soul. Since I discovered your paintings in Raw Vision magazine, I am really a great fan. This is what I hope Art of the Future will look like. I would like so much to see those paintings for real, but I don't think I have any chance to realize it in France for the moment, isn't it? Here Art exhibition are often so boring, and with a great lack of deep spirituality. You are a breathe for me, and for all the souls connection. A wonderful web page. I was first introduced to this phenomenal artist in the book, Sacred Mirrors. Reading that book and seeing his art triggered a shift in consciousness that culminated a short time later in a spontaneous kundalini awakening. Dear Mr. Grey, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all that you have brought to this world. I am doing a research project on you and your work for school and have found that we have the same belief: healing art. I believe God gave us talent to help others in their times of need. I first came in contact with your art when I purchased the newest Tool album. Since then I've viewed more of it and I am in awe. I'm an aspiring anthropologist currently enrolled in college, and I hope to pursue a path of knowledge that unites scientific inquiry with the mystic nature of existence. On Oct 31(Halloween) I attended to a Tool concert in San Diego CA. Nothing I knew about Tool or their music prepared me for the artistic expression exhibited live on stage that night . It was amazing. Alex Gray's work was utilized thruoghout the stage and helped create a sense of transcendance that radiated beond Tools performance. Anyone able to catch the Lateralus tour is highly encourged to do so.

I would just like to comment on the intensity of this site. I haven't felt so connected by just seeing art and reading on someone else's visions of what we all are in a very long time. I have to say that this has inspired me to get back on my path to correctly find out who I am. I would appreaciate more information on how to begin again. Somewhere along the way I have lost myself once more. It always seems like a long path, but I already know that it is not backtracking for it is just more experience to finding who I am and what I am doing on this relm. I feel that some higher power guided me to your book "The Mission of Art". I was browsing at a local bookstore, biding time, waiting for the opening of a gallery show called "Divine" in which I have three paintings. (see www.fa.indiana.edu/~sofa/index2.html) I know your work through the book "Sacred Mirrors", which I used to leave lying around for my adolescent daughter to look at, thinking that it would be educational in spiritual, artistic, anatomical, and many other ways! So when I saw the new book on the shelf, I bought it immediately, without even opening it first. One week later, at a "lecture" I gave about my work at the gallery, I ended my talk by quoting this passage from the dialog in the chapter "Art as Spiritual Practice": "So artists need to recognise their own spiritual nature, find a way of manifesting it in their work, and then bring it out in the world so it can do some good...An artist has to find a way to adequately or amazingly convey spirit into their work. It has to be creative and filled with the real, scary fire of infinite love and beauty." After reading the book carefully, I must say thank you for your encouraging, inspiring, and clear words.

I first heard the name Alex Grey on Tool's website a while back and decided to click on the link. "If Tool appreciate his artwork, it's probably worth a shot," I thought. I looked over the website briefly and saw and read enough to interest me, so I decided to buy "Sacred Mirrors" to read and examine at my own pace (and not in front of a computer screen.) As I read through it, I came across a painting that just amazed me: "The Universal Mind Lattice." This painting was exactly what I had seen during a previous experience, but I could never explain it or even try to visualize it in a material way. Seeing this made me realize that Alex Grey was nothing short of brilliant. So all I really have to say is "Thank You."

First off, I must say that i was turned on to your work by the new Tool album. After I took off the outer sleeve, my jaw simply dropped. I could not believe the detail and precision of what lay in front of me. At first i suspected that Adam Jones had another hidden talent, but then the back of the CD led me to your name. Who is Alex Grey? One week later I have your book The Mission of Art on order at Amazon.com. It arrived in the mail today, and i have been caught up in it all evening. Basically, I just want to say thank you. You have expressed in detail ideas that have been crossing my mind for several years. I feel as if i have found someone else who "understands." you are and amazing man and i do not believe i could ever choose a favorite between your works, although i can settle on copulation and coupling or that kissing one. Forgive me for my lack of rememberance. You are an amazing artist. I saw your work for the first time at your art exibit at the State University of Oneonta a few years back. I am a student there - Music Industry Business. Your work is absolutely astonishing and original. I find the result of stripping people of their flesh, their façade, and exposing them and their actions for the purely spiritual and physiological -- rather than what we see daily -- as shocking and eye-opening as the philosophies behind your work. Much respect for your work with Tool and for appearing on the cover of DMT: The Spirit Molecule, among other things.
