Alex on stage at the Time & Space Festival in Mexico City

In mid-December 2012, we flew down to Mexico City for the first of two appearances at the Time and Space Festival events, where we painted in front of an audience of over 9,000 people. Shpongle's Simon Posford took the audience on a sonic journey as we filled the canvas with pigments. It was a wonderful event with a really great turn out. An excellent way to start off our time in Mexico.

Mayan artifact in the museum

While in Mexico City, we visited the National Museum of Anthropology to see some Mesoamerican artifacts. Last time we were in town, the Xochipilli statue had been on a tour, but now the sculpture was back and available for a portrait. In the mid-19th century, a 16th-century Aztec statue of Xochipilli was unearthed on the side of the volcano Popocatépetl near Tlalmanalco. The statue is of a single figure seated upon a temple-like base. Both the statue and the base upon which it sits are covered in carvings of sacred and psychoactive organisms. The figure himself kneels on the base, head tilted up, eyes open, jaw tensed, with his mouth half open and his arms opened to the heavens.

After Mexico city the Greys traveled Tulum and visited the ruins

After a thorough investigation of the museum, the Greys traveled onward to the beaches of Tulum, where they met up with Nicki Scully and Jonathan Singer. They enjoyed a few moments on the beach together, then everyone got in a vehicle and traveled to the Tulum ruins. The ruins were right on the ocean with a beautiful view of the pristine aqua waters.

Alex addressing the audience at 11:11 on December 21st, 2012

On December 21st we traveled to the Time and Space festival which was on the beach with a view of the Tulum ruins from the stage. At 11:11 we took the stage to share a prayer and a vision of a future where humanity honors it's connection to all life, and lives together in unity with respect to all life forms.  It was a powerful moment as people all over the world were all praying on this special day December 21st, 2012, End of the Mayan Long Count calendar and the beginning of a new cycle. There were several minutes of silence as many people on the beaches of Tulum turned inward to connect with the cosmos and the the life web.

A & A Live Painting with Shpongle in Tulum

Alex & Allyson live painting with Shpongle in Tulum

We painted for most of the day and into the night. As we moved into the evening, they shined the stage lights on the painting to illuminate it.
After the Tulum event we traveled to the ruins in Coba before leaving.  The Coba archaeological zone is located 42 km. west of Tulum. With many buildings still covered by jungle, Coba is over 80 sq. miles with 5 lakes. Nohoch Mul is the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan peninsula. It is 12 stories tall and has 120 steps to the top! But from the top you can view a magnificent span of jungle with the tops of other ruins reaching above the jungle canopy.
